Rohtak Municipal Commissioner Brahmjeet Singh Rangi said a meeting was held at the corporation office to address the issue.

“Joint Municipal Commissioner Bhupender Singh has been directed to launch a drive to catch the stray cattle and rehabilitate them at the corporation’s cowshed in Pahrawar village of the district in accordance with the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct,” said Rangi.

The Commissioner admitted that a number of stray cattle were roaming around in the Rohtak municipal area, which caused inconvenience to residents.

“We have been getting complaints from residents and seeing media reports in this regard. Hence, the officials concerned have been asked to do the needful regarding the matter,” he stated.

Rangi also appealed to the cattle owners not to let off their cattle in the open.

Notably, stray cattle have become a big nuisance for the city residents. These can be seen roaming or sitting even on busy roads of the city, which disrupts traffic and sometimes leads to accidents.

Many a time, passersby are attacked by stray bulls.

“Stray cattle sitting in the middle of roads obstruct the flow of vehicular traffic and make it difficult for the pedestrians to pass through the way,” said Satish Kumar, a resident of Jagdish Colony.

Residents say that a number of road accidents take place due to the stray cattle roaming on roads at night as commuters often fail to see them while driving.

The problem of stray cattle persists despite numerous complaints having been made to the authorities concerned in this regard.

The local municipal authorities also run drives to catch and rehabilitate stray cattle occasionally, but a permanent solution is yet to be found to get rid of the menace.
