A meeting of the Retired College Principals and Teachers Association (RCPTA), Yamunanagar zone, was recently held here.

The meeting was presided over by Dr Varinder Gandhi, retired principal and Director, Guru Nanak Girls College, Yamunanagar.

RCPTA Yamunanagar secretary Devendra Anand conducted the proceedings and presented the report of the November 2024 meeting.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Amar Singh Malhotra, president, Retired Teachers Association, Haryana, provided updates on various court cases related to retired teachers.

Regarding pensions, he said Rs 300 crore had been allocated for financial year 2024-25, covering payments until January.

He said additional budget requests had been made to ensure timely pension disbursements. He elaborated on several issues, including charging compound interest instead of simple interest in probation period cases, granting all benefits to those who retired before 2006, notional pay fixation, delinking of service, timely pension payments, disbursing pensions through the treasury, providing medical benefits and addressing concerns related to the 36-day strike period.

He said the government should consider all demands of retired teachers sympathetically so that they received their rightful benefits.

In his presidential address, Dr Varinder Gandhi stressed the importance of unity among retired teachers and the need for continuous efforts to safeguard their interests.

Retired principal Dr Balbir Singh highlighted concerns about the deteriorating quality of education.

Dr Asha Kapoor, Dr Avinash Singh, Dr BB Mahajan, Subhash Vohra, Subhash Sehgal and finance secretary Yugesh Kumar were among those present at the meeting.
