Members of the retired employees union here, in collaboration with the Haryana State Employees Union, staged a protest in support of their demands and submitted a memorandum to Bhiwani MLA Ghanshyam Saraf and Cabinet Minister Shruti Choudhury's secretary today.
A number of retired employees and members from various departments of
the Haryana Employees Union gathered at the union’s office. A meeting was conducted under the joint leadership of Fateh Singh Sheoran, president, Bhiwani Block Retired Employees Union, and Sushil Kumar, president, district employees union. During the demonstration, state president Master Wazir Singh said the government had been adopting anti-employee policies and added that they needed to counter the government move through united struggles.
President Naresh Sharma stated that a membership campaign would be run from February 1 to 15, aiming to make retired employees aware of the government’s neglect of their long-pending demands.
The speakers highlighted various demands, including an increase in
basic pensions by 10-20 per cent for employees over 65 and 75 years, reducing
commutation period from 15 to 10 years, providing cashless medical
facilities, and exempting pension income from taxes. They also called for the restoration of the old pension scheme and discounted travel for senior citizens. They criticised the government for its indifferent attitude towards them over the past decade and announced plans to actively participate in a mass gathering (mahapadav) programme in Kurukshetra on February 15-16.
