Revolt of 1857 began in Ambala, say historians

Well-known historians, professors and researchers from Delhi and across Haryana asserted in one voice that 1857 Revolt first started in Ambala and history also had irrefutable proof of it.

These historians made this claim during a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Vijai Vardhan regarding the construction of a war memorial to be built in Ambala Cantonment here today.

During the meeting, historians, including KC Yadav, former head of department, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Neera Mishra, chairperson, Draupadi Dream Trust, New Delhi, Professor Arun Kesarwani, former head of department, ancient history, Kurukshetra University, Udai Veer, former head of department, SD College, Ambala Cantt. Jaiveer Dhankar, head of department, History, MDU, Rohtak, Professor Maha Singh Poonia, director, youth and cultural affairs and in-charge, museum, Kurukshetra University, echoed the same sentiments that the Revolt of 1857 broke out in Ambala first.

An amount of Rs 200 crore will be spent on the construction of ‘shaheedi smarak’ that is being developed on 22 acres in Ambala.
