Rewari, August 5

A doctor of a private hospital has been booked by the city police on the charge of negligence during the surgery of a woman suffering from kidney stone. Though the incident occurred in February and her husband lodged a police complaint at that time, an FIR has been registered now, after an inquiry was completed by the Medical Board for Negligence of the Civil Hospital.

Ajay Kumar of Gurugram had stated that he took his wife to Rewari on February 13 for treatment after she complained of acute stomach ache. The doctor at a private hospital diagnosed stone in her right kidney on the basis of her ultrasound report and advised him to get the treatment done in another hospital in Rewari.

“We went to that hospital, where she was operated upon. After she was discharged, we went through the discharge summary and saw that it was written that the operation had been conducted on the left side,” said the complaint.

“We met the doctor on February 24. He denied any negligence during the operation but could not give any satisfactory reply to our question. Finally, the doctor asked me to go for another surgery to remove the stone stating that he would not charge any fee. I refused and got my wife’s surgery done at another hospital,” Ajay added.

The police wrote to the Civil Surgeon Office, Rewari, for inquiry into the matter. The Medical Board for Negligence, in its report submitted to the police, stated that the doctor was indeed negligent.

Inspector Surender Singh, SHO, City Police Station, Rewari, said a case had been registered and the Gokul police were probing the matter further.
