Rewari farmers seek Rs 50k per acre compensation for crop losses
Affected farmers under the aegis of All India Kisan Khet Mazdoor Sangathan (AIKKMS), on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the district administration demanding Rs 50,000 per acre as compensation for the crop losses caused by hailstorm in the district recently.
The farmers jointly led by the AIKKMS leaders --Ram Kumar Nimoth and Rakesh Kumar Sunaria -- said they would be ruined if the state government did not come forward to bail them out of the crisis.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajendra Singh, another leader of the AIKKMS, said hailstorm had caused extensive damage to the mustard crop in the district, hence a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre should be given to the distressed farmers.
Decrying the private insurance companies, he said a huge amount was collected by them in every season in the name of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) but all farmers were not compensated in case they suffered any crop loss.
“Many farmers in Rewari district still have been awaiting compensation under the PMFBY for their crop losses that occurred in 2022 and 2023. The PMFBY should be withdrawn if it is unable to provide the compensation to farmers,” said Rajendra.
He demanded that the affected farmers should be given compensation by conducting special Girdawari to calculate actual losses. There should also be a provision of compensation for those farmers who had sown the crop by taking the land on contract. Moreover, those farmers having objections over the crop loss assessment should be given a chance to be heard, he added.
As per sources, the mustard crop spread over 15,000 acres in around 60 villages of Rewari and Bawal blocks in the district have suffered significant damage due to heavy downpour coupled with hailstorm in the region some days ago.
“Jhabua, Bhadhoj, Jadthal, Bolni, Pithanwas, Kharkara, Bhatsana, Dhakiya, Pachgaon, Alamgirpur, Masani, Rasgan, Dungarwas, Khaliawas, Nikhri, Khatawali, Raliyawas, Pachaur, Majri Duda, Khijuri, Jeetpura, Rozka etc are the worst affected villages by the natural calamity,” the sources added.
