The girls’ netball and softball events of the 58th Haryana State School Tournament came to an end on Friday at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sports Stadium in Sirsa. The closing ceremony was attended by District Education Officer Sunita Sai as the chief guest and Assistant District Sports Education Officer Harbans Singh as the special guest.
In netball, the under-14 category saw Rewari finish first, followed by Sirsa in second place and Jind in third. In the under-17 category, host district Sirsa delivered a strong performance to secure first place, with Fatehabad and Hisar finishing second and third, respectively. In the under-19 category, Rewari again claimed the top spot, while Sirsa and Hisar followed in second and third place.
In the softball competition, the under-14 title went to Jhajjar, with Fatehabad in second place and Kaithal in third. The under-17 category was won by Fatehabad, followed by Kurukshetra and Hisar. In the under-19 category, Fatehabad secured first place again, with Kaithal in second and Hisar taking third.
During the ceremony, the winning teams were honoured with trophies and cash prizes.
In netball, the winning team received Rs 12,000, the runner-up team was awarded Rs 9,000 and the third-place team got Rs 6,000. In softball, the top team won Rs 16,000, the runner-up team earned Rs 12,000, and the third-place team was given Rs 8,000 in prize money.
Speaking at the event, Sunita Sai said participation in sports is essential for a healthy life. She noted that games not only improve physical fitness but also teach important life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and tolerance. She praised the young athletes for their hard work and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence. The event saw enthusiastic performances from girls representing various districts, and the audience applauded their efforts throughout the competition.
The tournament was organised under the leadership of Harbans Singh. Rajesh Kamboj served as the nodal officer for softball and Rakesh Kumar was in-charge of the netball events. Several coaches and sports officials from different districts contributed to the smooth running of the tournament.
