The Rewari Municipal Council (MC) has floated a tender for door-to-door garbage collection after receiving the much-awaited approval from the state headquarters. Unlike the previous practice of annual contracts, the new initiative involves a long-term agreement of seven years, aimed at ensuring uninterrupted waste management services and reducing administrative delays associated with frequent retendering.

According to officials, the council will spend over Rs 43 crore over the duration of the contract. The project will cover all 31 municipal wards, with the goal of establishing a reliable and efficient sanitation system across the city.

To meet the logistical demands of the project, the selected contractor will be required to deploy around 48 battery-operated e-rickshaws, 58 tempos, and four tractors for waste collection and transportation. The collected garbage will be dumped at the designated site in Ramsinghpura.

The move comes in the wake of operational disruptions caused by the expiry of the previous contract on December 31. Although the contractor continued services under temporary extensions, the council faced criticism after a brief strike by the agency over unpaid dues. The strike, though called off within a day, drew public attention to the fragility of short-term arrangements.

MC Chairperson Poonam Yadav was optimistic about the new arrangement. “Following approval from the headquarters, we have now issued the tender for door-to-door waste collection. This time, the contract is for seven years, with an estimated outlay of Rs 43 crore. Our top priority is to maintain a clean and hygienic city and we are consistently working toward that goal,” she said.

Yadav said the long-term contract would enhance accountability, streamline operations, and ultimately lead to a cleaner, healthier Rewari.
