Rewari sees 24-point decline in sex ratio, Rohtak improves slightly

Rewari district in Haryana has witnessed a significant decline in its Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB), dropping 24 points from 897 in 2023 to 873 in 2024. In contrast, Rohtak district has shown a slight improvement, with its SRB increasing by 5 points from 883 in 2023 to 888 in 2024.

Despite this improvement, both Rewari and Rohtak are among the three districts with the worst SRB performance in the state. Charkhi Dadri recorded the lowest SRB of 869, a decline of 28 points.

Other districts, such as Gurugram and Faridabad, also recorded SRBs below 900, with 899 each. Gurugram saw a drop of 29 points, while Faridabad’s SRB declined by 7 points. In contrast, Mahendragarh showed significant improvement, with its SRB increasing by 15 points. Jhajjar recorded a marginal decline of one point.

Haryana’s average SRB also declined, dropping 6 points from 916 in 2023 to 910 in 2024. Yamunanagar topped the state’s SRB rankings with 939, followed closely by Sirsa with 936.

Dr Banwar Singh, nodal officer (PNDT) for Rewari, acknowledged the decline in SRB and attributed it to various factors. “We will investigate the reasons behind this decline despite our awareness campaigns. We will intensify our efforts to improve SRB this year,” he said.

In Rohtak, Civil Surgeon Dr Ramesh Chander expressed confidence in improving SRB. “We conducted successful inter-state raids under the PC-PNDT Act in Uttar Pradesh last year. We expect further improvement in SRB this year,” he said.
