Rewari district has suffered a major setback by registering a considerable 24 points drop in the sex ratio of birth (SRB) last year as compared to 2023 while Rohtak has improved its SRB with 5 points, but both are among those three districts who performed worst across the state in terms of the SRB in 2024.
Charkhi Dadri has recorded the lowest SRB of 869 in the state with a decline of 28 points. Rewari had the SRB of 897 in 2023 which dropped to 873 at the end of 2024. Similarly, the SRB of Rohtak district was 883 in 2023 which improved to 888 last year.
Besides the three districts, Gurugram and Faridabad have also recorded the SRB below 900. Both have recorded 899 SRB last year with Gurugram registering a drop of 29 points and Faridabad 7 points.
Mahendragarh improved its SRB considerably with 15 points and Jhajjar recorded a slight drop of one point in the SRB last year. The SRB of Mahendragarh was 902 and Jhajjar 904 last year whereas the number was 887 and 905, respectively in 2023.
As far as the state’s average of the SRB is concerned, it too witnessed a drop of six points. The average SRB of the state was 916 in 2023, which dropped to 910 in 2024. Yamunanagar topped the tally with 939 followed by Sirsa 936, Nuh 928, Karnal 926 and Fatehabad 925 last year. Yamunanagar and Sirsa improved the gender ratio by 18 and 11 points, respectively, last year.
Dr Banwar Singh, Nodal Officer (PNDT), Rewari, said not only Rewari district but the state had also recorded a decline in its average SRB last year.
“We will ascertain the reasons behind the decline of gender ratio in Rewari despite carrying out awareness campaigns in the villages to make people aware of gender imbalance. More efforts will be made to improve the SRB this year,” Singh added.
Sources said no successful raid under the PC-PNDT act was carried out by the Rewari health authorities last year.
Dr Ramesh Chander, Civil Surgeon, Rohtak, said they were confident about a considerable improvement in the SRB last year.
“We had conducted two successful inter-state raids under the PC-PNDT Act in Uttar Pradesh in the last quarter of 2024, hence we are expecting more improvement in the SRB this year,” said Chander, adding that special focus would be laid on those villages having low gender ratio.
