Rewari: Students of the Indira Gandhi University here brought laurels to the university by performing well in the All-India Inter University Competitions. Vice-Chancellor SK Gakhar said Shakti Solanki clinched a silver medal in the shot put event in Mangalore, while Avinash and Lalit won bronze medals in judo in Kanpur and Mitali Saini won a bronze in Qwan-kido in Mohali. Director of Public Relations SS Chahar said various steps had been taken to provide sports facilities to budding sportspersons.
Capacity-building programme
Kurukshetra: A two-day capacity building programme for Class X science teachers was organised by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) at Gita Niketan Awasiya Vidyalaya here. The resource persons for the event were Monika Jain, PGT physics in Government School, Ambala, and Jessu Jaskanwar Singh, Assistant Professor in Education Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The main objectives of the workshop were to discuss the importance of science, develop students’ interest in science and practical challenges faced by science teachers. As many as 41 teachers from various schools attended the workshop. Participants expressed their views through various individual and group activities. The important points discussed were Bloom’s taxonomy, question paper framing, lesson plans and importance of conducting activities for effective teaching. Resource persons acquainted teachers about question paper design as per the latest CBSE guidelines for Class X. Principal Narayan Singh thanked the resource persons with souvenir and said such workshops would enhance teaching competence of teachers.
Student picked for nat’l youth fest
Sonepat: Priyanka, a student of Bhagat Phool Singh Women University, Khanpur Kalan, and a National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteer has been selected to represent the university at the four-day National Youth Festival being organised at Lucknow to mark Swami Vivekanand’s birth anniversary. Congratulating Priyanka on her selection Vice-Chancellor Sushma Yadav, Registrar Ipshita Bansal and NSS Programme Officer Dr Murti Malik said she will represent the university in various activities, along with NSS volunteers from different universities of the country in the festival.
Placement drive at Rewari varsity
Rewari: The Computer Science Engineering Department of Indira Gandhi University (IGU) here organised a campus placement drive wherein Taxpax company selected six students after a written examination and a group discussion. Vice-Chancellor SK Gakhar, said they were making efforts to ensure campus placement for students enrolled in professional courses. He said more placement drives would soon be organised on the campus.
Acquire skills, not just degree: VC
Faridabad: Dinesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA here urged the students to acquire real time engineering skills rather than merely attaining an engineering degree. He said a degree might get them a job, but it cannot help them grow further without nourishing their skill. He was addressing an inaugural session of a week-long workshop on ‘GIS and Surveying in Civil Engineering’ organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with REC Ambedkar Nagar (UP). BR Chauhan, Senior Advisor, Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) was the chief guest of the inaugural session. Praveen Tiwari, General Manager at CIDC was also present. Kumar stressed the need to arrange educational tours for students to historical monuments, buildings and major construction project sites in every semester.
