A student of SKG Senior Secondary School in Rewari’s Bhakli village, Rajat, has topped the district in the Class XII examinations, the results of which were declared by the Board of School Education Haryana on Tuesday. He also secured the sixth rank in the state, obtaining an impressive 493 out of 500 marks (98.6 per cent).

Rajat scored a perfect 100 in mathematics, 98 each in physics and chemistry, and 97 in English. Originally from Nangal Sirohi village in Mahendragarh district, he lives with his aunt in Shyam Nagar, Kosli.

Sharing details about his background, Rajat said his mother, Neelam Devi, was a teacher at a private school in Mahendragarh, while his father, Surender Singh, worked as an inspector at the Cooperative Bank in Pataudi of Gurugram district. His elder sister, Muskan, recently appeared for the NEET exam, and his younger sister, Bhavika, is a Class IX student at Navodaya Vidyalaya in Mahendragarh.

Speaking to ‘The Tribune’, Rajat said he was confident of performing well in the exams but had not imagined that he would top the district and secure a position in the state’s top 10 category.

“I aspire to study at IIT-Delhi and become an engineer. My dream is to develop advanced technologies that can contribute to national development and improve the lives of ordinary citizens,” he said.

Rajat explained that he had set his goal of joining IIT after scoring 96.4 per cent in Class X. “Achieving a high score in Class XII was crucial, so I studied diligently for 5-6 hours daily at home, without any coaching. I stayed away from mobile phones and social media for two years. The results are a reflection of that discipline and hard work,” he added.

Although he did not appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) this year in order to focus on the board exams, Rajat now planned to prepare for the next phase to secure admission to IIT-Delhi.

He shared that it was his brother, Amit, who informed him about the result. “Since the result was declared, I’ve been receiving calls from media persons and well-wishers. It’s a proud moment for me. Even my school teachers visited our home to celebrate the achievement,” Rajat added.
