Rights panel takes note of nose pin removal before recruitment exam

The Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) has taken suo motu notice of an incident at an examination centre in Rohtak, where a woman was forced to remove her nose pin during an entrance examination on January 9 for recruiting panchayat secretaries.

“Taking out the nose pin from the nose, which is an ornament and customary right of an Indian woman, is a violation of the human right of a woman,” the HHRC observed. The woman had broken down after the incident and her photograph had appeared in a vernacular daily.

“It is clear that the staff at the examination centre had conducted an act which hurt the woman ,” said the HHRC in its order. The HHRC directed the Secretary, HSSC, to file an explanation report within six weeks. The next hearing would be on April 26. — TNS
