The court also imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 upon him.

The incident was reported to the police on August 3, 2019. The Kundli police got a tip-off that a 19-year-old girl Shiwani was murdered at Dahisra village and her family members had cremated her on the banks of the Yamuna. A police team reached the spot, but the family had by that time also immersed her remains in the river.

The police collected evidence from the spot and took Santram, father of the deceased, in custody.

Shashi, mother of the deceased, said her husband had murdered Shiwani by strangulating her. He told her that she had brought them a bad name. Santram had told the villagers that she had died due to heart stroke at night.

The police registered a case of murder against Santram in the name of honour under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC.
