The upcoming Assembly poll has toned up the political hustle, with the surfacing of a large number of ticket seekers or aspirants in almost all prominent political parties.
“As the elections have given an opportunity to many who think they could emerge as a choice to represent their parties, a number of aspirants have already started staking their claim by saying that they are dedicated party workers and having a huge fan following in the respective Assembly segments,” says Narender Sirohi a political analyst here. He said though it may be premature for most of the parties to decide or announce the names of candidates, the claimants may have given sleepless nights to many of the sitting legislators in view of the factor in the anti- incumbency prevailing in a majority of the segments. The number of aspirants could have been over 50 for the six assembly segments in the district, he says.
“Though some of the sitting MLA’s might be confident of getting repeated , there are many who have started feeling the heat in view of the publicity and indirect criticism done by their opponents within the party or those who have started staking claim for the ticket from a particular seat,” says AK Gaur, a resident. He said while a majority of the aspirants had already been engaged in their PR exercise within and outside the party, it could result in a tough contest among the probable candidates in many areas, as the parties may not be interested in repeating some due to the person of dent in the credibility or image.
“Ongoing debates over the achievements and failures in particular constituencies may have become an issue of concern for some of the sitting MLA’s, as negative publicity might seal their fate,” said Vishnu Goel, a social activist. He said each of the parties faced an almost similar situation as the number of ticket seekers had been more than six for parties, such as the BJP and the Congress in every constituency. Majority of the claimants in the NIT Assembly segments are sure of getting a ticket, he added.
Some of the aspirants have also taken up the problem regarding the policy of denying tickets to those who had lost two consecutive times, said a political analyst. He said many activists who aspire to become MLAs have already started campaigning and have been engaged in a publicity drive through social media and other means.
