Following heavy flow of water in Markanda and Saraswati rivers, the Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner has directed officers and employees to remain on alert, and no officer will leave the headquarters.

Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena said in view of the possibility of waterlogging and flood, the officers and employees will remain on alert mode and no officer or employee will leave the headquarters.

The district administration has appealed to the people to remain vigilant in the areas affected by waterlogging and shift to safer places. In case of any emergency, they can seek help from the control room of the district administration. The situation is under control so far, but due to continuous rain, the water level in Markanda and Saraswati is rising.

The Deputy Commissioner said due to heavy rains in the hilly areas, the water level in Markanda River and Saraswati River was increasing rapidly and there was threat of waterlogging and flood in the nearby villages. Due to which there waa possibility of loss of life and property. He instructed the officers to visit the populated areas in the villages and urban areas and submit a report of the affected locations to the administration. He also directed the Chief Executive Officer of Kurukshetra Development Board to ensure that the SDRF team deployed at the Brahma Sarovar reported to Shahabad SDM to deal with the emergency situation.

He said according to the report of the officials of the Irrigation Department, the water status at the gauge of Shahabad Markanda was 255.40 metres and the discharge of water was 12,183 cusecs.

Meena said, “Instructions have been given to the officials to remain present at the headquarters and ensure the arrangement of adequate number of materials and equipment related to flood rescue. Apart from this, in case of waterlogging in the surrounding villages and roads, they will ensure the arrangement of earthen sacks, and machines to drain out the water.”
