Road collapses in Indri block after rain, DC orders inquiry
Taking serious note of a road stretch being washed away between Kalsora and Islamnagar in the Indri block after heavy rains on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Uttam Singh has ordered a probe into the incident.
The inquiry, to be conducted by the Sub-Divisional Vigilance Committee led by Indri SDM Ashok Munjal, will focus on construction quality, material usage, adherence to specifications and the timeline of the project.
“The issue came to my notice and I have directed the Sub-Divisional Vigilance Committee led by Indri SDM to inquire into the matter and submit a detailed report. This is a serious matter. Public funds are involved and the road was meant to serve people for a long time. If there is any negligence or substandard work, strict action will be taken against those responsible,” said DC Uttam Singh.
“We have initiated an inquiry. The SDO of PWD (B&R), Indri, has been summoned to present his department’s version. A site inspection will also be conducted,” added SDM Ashok Munjal.
Officials from the Public Works Department (Buildings & Roads) have attributed the washout to heavy water flow at a culvert point and claimed that the damaged stretch was not newly constructed.
“It wasn’t a new road. The portion that collapsed was at a culvert and the washout happened due to excessive water pressure,” clarified Sandeep Singh, Executive Engineer (XEN), PWD (B&R).
However, local residents contradicted the department’s claims, alleging that the road was repaired just two months ago and collapsed after the first major rainfall of the season.
“It was a serious lapse as the road was repaired only recently. This shouldn’t have happened so soon,” said Rajinder, a local resident.
The collapse has temporarily disrupted traffic and connectivity between the two villages. Repair work is currently underway, officials confirmed.
