Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh today pulled up officials during the Road Safety Committee meeting for their lackadaisical attitude. The DC issued directions to issue show-cause notices to Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India, and Executive Engineers of the PWD.

The DC said, “Repeated accidents and deaths at similar spots on the national and state highways is a matter of concern and action will be taken against officials concerned for not taking directions seriously. It appears that officials of various departments have been just doing the formalities and no work is being done on the ground, due to which people are losing lives on Ladwa-Barara chowk, Khanpur Kolian, near Murthal Dhaba, near Rattangarh village and Pratapgarh. The officers are neither showing interest in taking action on this serious issue nor are they attending the monthly meeting.”

“Show-cause notices will be issued to the officials of the departments concerned and a detailed letter will also be sent to the Additional Chief Secretary. The officials have been told to send the action taken report regarding the work done to stop accidents and complete the pending works by Monday,” she said.

The DC has directed officials of the NHAI and PWD to close all illegal access points on the NH-44 and roads under the PWD within 15 days. Besides, officials were also directed to fix speed breakers and send the report to the DC.

Unhappy with the delay in works, including construction of a service lane for vehicles going towards Pipli from SKIET, the DC told the PWD officials that instead of just sending letters, they must follow up files and get the work done. Several works were pending since 2023. She issued directions to install CCTV cameras from Kurukshetra University (Gate 3) to Jyotisar and issue online challans for over speeding and other traffic violations. She also directed officials to regularly check school buses.
