In his complaint to the police, Fajrul Haqe, a resident of Buria Road in Jagadhri city, stated that he worked as a contractor and had been living in the house for the last six years with his wife and four children (three girls and a boy).

“The doors of the house are old and for the last 15 days, repair work was underway at the house. Around 11 pm, we went to sleep. Around 3.30 am, I heard a noise and when I went out, I saw six boys in the lobby of my house. Two of them went inside the room of my daughters, while the other four entered my room forcefully. They were carrying knives,” the complainant stated.

He said, “One of them put a knife on my neck while another one threatened my wife with a knife. I handed them Rs 1.5 lakh in cash. They then asked me for the keys to the locked drawers but when I refused, they started beating me. They damaged the locks and took Rs 7 lakh and around 11 gm-worth gold ornaments. While fleeing, they tied my hand and when they were tying the hands of my wife, she started screaming. One of them slapped her, threatened to kill me and my family if we informed the police, before fleeing.”

When they went to check on their daughters, they saw that they had tape on their mouths and their hands were tied. They decamped with Rs 8.50 lakh cash, 11-gram gold and a mobile phone.

The family alerted the neighbours and the police were informed. The robbers were captured in a CCTV camera installed near the house.

A case has been registered against unidentified robbers at the Jagadhari city police station under Sections 395 and 397 of the IPC.

SHO, Jagadhri city police station, Narender Singh said, “The CCTV footage is being checked and we are trying to identify the robbers and the route used by them. Four teams of the CIA and the police station are working on this case.”
