Robbery suspect held after encounter
The police have arrested one of the suspects involved in a high-value robbery in the district following an encounter near a village last night. While one suspect managed to flee, the total number of arrests in the case has now risen to five.
A senior police official said the accused, Vineet, about 30 years old, was apprehended after he was injured in an exchange of gunfire with the police near Nachauli village. The incident occurred after the police had set up a barricade based on intelligence that two of the suspects —Vineet and Virender — were in the area. The officers opened fire in retaliation after one of the suspects shot at them. Vineet was struck in the leg by a bullet, while Virender fled.
Vineet, who has been admitted to hospital, was found with two live cartridges, a gold chain and Rs 50,000 cash. Hailing from Ram Nagar in Meerut district, Vineet is wanted in connection with around six cases of theft and illegal weapons in Hapur and Meerut areas of Uttar Pradesh.
The police have already arrested four other individuals in connection with the robbery, including Sonu, Bablu, Akash and Rahul. The group is accused of robbing the home of Naveen, a resident of Karnera village, on January 3.
