Rohtak businessman gets Rs 5-crore extortion threat
Veteran businessman Avtar Singh Kochar (72), popularly known as Doli Sardar, has filed a formal complaint with the Rohtak Superintendent of Police after receiving a death threat along with a demand of Rs 5 crore in extortion.
Kochar stated that he received a threatening WhatsApp call and message on Tuesday evening from an individual identifying himself as Kapil Sangwan, alias Nandu. The message contained explicit threats of harm to Kochar and his children if the extortion amount was not paid.
Notably, Nandu is a notorious criminal and reportedly operates his gang from abroad. In his complaint, Kochar mentioned that he frequently traveled to Delhi for business and requested police protection. He also recalled a similar threat in 2013, which led to him being assigned a police gunman for personal security. Reiterating the seriousness of the current threat, he urged the police to ensure the safety of his family.
Kochar received another WhatsApp message on Thursday from the same number, which read, “Kar le tyyari” (Get ready), heightening the anxiety among his family members.
“The police have assured me that they would provide me security, but the caller continues to send threatening messages, creating a deep sense of fear within the family. Strict action must be taken against such miscreants,” said Kochar.
Sources confirmed that the police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are tracing the origin of the calls and messages.
