With the polling date getting closer, candidates of both prominent parties, the Congress and the BJP, have not only intensified their campaigns, but also sharpened their verbal attack on each other.
Batra: BJP ruined Rohtak city
The Congress candidate and two-time MLA, Bharat Bhushan Batra, has accused the BJP of having ruined the Rohtak city during its regime, while the BJP’s nominee and former minister Manish Kumar Grover has accused Congress leaders of spreading lies with an intention to garner people’s support.
“We had ensured the overall development of the city during the Congress’ regime. Besides establishing several educational institutes, roads were constructed, drainage system was developed and clean drinking water was made available to the residents, but the BJP has ruined Rohtak after coming to power. People are forced to drink contaminated water and the sewer system has completely collapsed while deep potholes have developed on all roads,” claims Batra.
He said even after mild rain, roads had got inundated in the low-lying areas of the city as the BJP government had failed to desilt the drains and sewer lines. Overflowing sewers in many colonies had made people’s lives miserable. Moreover, people were compelled to make rounds of government offices to get their property IDs and PPP rectified. The BJP had also utterly failed to ease out traffic congestion in the city, he added.
“On coming to power, we will make Rohtak as it was during the Congress regime. During that time, Rohtak was a beautiful city and people were getting all basic facilities,” said Batra. Grover attacked the Congress candidate, saying that Batra had been the Rohtak MLA for the past five years, but he had spent most of the time at his house, while the BJP government made efforts to tackle the problem of traffic congestion by constructing elevated roads and rail track.
“Garbage used to be accumulated at every nook and corner of the city during the Congress regime but the BJP ensured that it was lifted daily. As a result, the Rohtak MC, for the first time, bagged the tag of being the cleanest city by securing the first rank in the Swachh Survekshan-2023,” he said.
