After sealing a dairy that failed to relocate to the designated site despite multiple notices, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has now set a five-day deadline for dairy owners in Gandhi Camp, Kachha Beri Road and Mal Godown Road area to begin construction work on plots allotted to them at the New Dairy Complex, Kanheli village, on the outskirts of the city.

The move aims to ensure the shifting of dairies from residential areas to the newly developed complex.

The MC has also directed the dairy owners to click photographs of the commencement of construction work and submit the same to the MC office as proof of compliance to avoid further action against them. The directions were issued following a meeting between the dairy owners and Commissioner Anand Kumar Sharma last evening. During the meeting, the dairy owners sought additional time to begin construction, said Vipin Narwal, a spokesperson of the MC.

“All dairy owners have been instructed to start construction work on respective plots by Monday to avoid action. The plots at the New Dairy Complex were allotted several years ago with the purpose of shifting dairies out from the residential areas. Despite repeated notices, most plot holders have failed to initiate construction. However, the recent sealing of one dairy prompted them to take the matter seriously and begin preparations to shift their operations,” he added.

Narwal said the majority of 251 plots at the New Dairy Complex had been allotted to the dairy owners operating in the Mal Godown Road, Kachha Beri Road and Gandhi Nagar areas. However, only 90 dairy owners have shifted their operations to the new site, prompting the MC authorities to take strict action against those delaying the relocation.

“Apart from the three localities, over 200 dairies are being run in various parts of the city, though their owners do not have plots in the new complex,” he added. Meanwhile, Commissioner Anand Kumar Sharma said the process of sealing dairies had been put on hold following the request of the dairy owners.

“Those who have plots at the New Dairy Complex have promised to start construction by Monday. Those who do not have plots have been told to ensure proper sanitation,” he added.
