Rohtak health university bars staff from speaking to media without approval

Also warns of disciplinary action if they fail to comply with orders

Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences Rohtak (UHSR) has issued a strict office order directing all faculty members, residents and other employees to refrain from giving any statements or versions directly to mediapersons without prior approval from the university authorities.

“The order follows instances of certain doctors and employees making statements to the media about various developments, decisions, and steps taken by the university to improve its functioning. Sometimes, such officials do not even hesitate to share crucial information with the media, which goes against the university’s guidelines and can harm its image,” said the sources.

According to the order issued by the Registrar recently in this respect, the university has observed that statements and verdicts of faculty and other staff have been appearing in newspapers without any prior approval, permission or information to the authorities. Terming this a violation of protocol, the administration has instructed that any information meant for the media must be routed strictly through the office of public relations.

“Henceforth, all faculty members/ residents and other employees of the university should refrain from speaking / giving any version directly to media persons,” states the order.

The circular states that strict compliance is mandatory, warning that disciplinary action will be taken against any individual found violating the directions.

The order has been circulated to all major administrative heads, including the Director of PGIMS, Dean Academic Affairs, Medical Superintendent, heads of departments, wardens, branch incharges and others besides Principal of the Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences, Rohtak, for immediate action and adherence.

“The orders will certainly help curb the employees who freely comment on various developments and the functioning of the university without considering the possible adverse impact on its image,” claimed the sources.
