Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHS) authorities have decided to implement an on-the-spot evaluation system for exam papers across various medical and paramedical courses, including MBBS and BDS. This initiative aims to expedite the declaration of results and prevent any potential misconduct during the evaluation process.

A total of 145 institutions, including medical, nursing, paramedical, dental, pharmacy, and physiotherapy colleges, in the state are affiliated to the UHS which conducts their exams and declares results. Over 12,000 students are enrolled in these undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The UHS authorities claimed that it would be the first time when exam papers for medical and paramedical courses would be evaluated under one roof, monitored by CCTV cameras.

“Currently, exam papers of all courses are sent to experts (in and outside) for evaluation. While we take precautions to ensure that examinees cannot determine where their papers are sent, and that evaluators too can't identify students on the basis of their papers, we have decided to implement on-the-spot evaluation to further enhance the integrity of the evaluation system," Dr HK Aggarwal, Vice-Chancellor, UHS, told ‘The Tribune’.

Sources claimed that Dr Aggarwal, upon assuming the charge of VC over a month ago, assessed the existing paper evaluation process and recognised the need for additional measures to enhance its credibility and prevent potential misconduct. This led to the proposal for on-the-spot evaluation, which Dr Aggarwal is eager to implement swiftly.

“We have identified two halls in the administrative block of the UHS for the evaluation of exam papers. These halls are currently used for other office work, but I have instructed the officials concerned to convert them into evaluation halls and install CCTV cameras. The papers will be brought to these halls after the exam and experts will be invited there to evaluate the papers. All expenses for travel, accommodation, and hospitality of the evaluators will be borne by the UHS," he said.

“The evaluation system will enable us to declare exam results for all courses in a timely manner. Currently, it takes several days to send the papers to evaluators and then receive them back. Sometimes, evaluators exceed the expected time due to various reasons. The new system will facilitate timely evaluations of exam papers.”
