The CIA-2 unit of the Kurukshetra police has arrested a Rohtak resident in connection with a firing incident at Keshav Park on March 22, in which a minor boy suffered a bullet injury.

The accused has been identified as Devender, a resident of Rohtak. An ex-serviceman, Devender had been working as a gunman for the past few months. He was produced before a court, which remanded him to three days of police custody. However, two other suspects—Jaideep, who allegedly fired shots, and Robin, who is said to have ordered the shooting—remain at large.

Robin, a resident of Sonepat, is also a former Delhi police officer and has multiple criminal cases related to cheating and paper leaks against him.

The incident occurred on March 22 when Ashish Tiwari, a minor from Uttar Pradesh, was injured during a firing incident. Ashish, along with a large group of Brahmin community members, had come to Kurukshetra to attend a Mahayagya organised by Swami Hariom Maharaj at Keshav Park. The altercation began over complaints regarding the quality of food being served. Devender, who was working as a gunman for Robin, opened fire, injuring Ashish in the thigh. The accused then fled the scene.

In response to the shooting, a large group of Brahmin community members staged a protest, blocking the Kurukshetra-Pehowa road and throwing stones. A case was registered at Krishna Gate Police Station and the investigation was handed over to the CIA-2 unit.

CIA-2 in-charge Mohan Lal said, “During the investigation, Devender was arrested. He was an ex-serviceman and had been working as a gunman for Robin, who has multiple cases against him. Robin was in charge of the Mahayagya arrangements and had two gunmen—Devender and Jaideep. On March 22, some Brahmin community members, who had come to participate in the Mahayagya, raised complaints about the food quality and wanted to meet the organiser. The accused didn’t allow them to meet the organiser, which led to a verbal spat and scuffle.”

Lal further explained, “Devender disclosed that, following Robin’s direction, they fired shots into the air before targeting the protesting Brahmins, resulting in Ashish’s injury. He is still undergoing treatment at a hospital.
