The Municipal Corporation (MC) authorities have begun taking strict action against dairy owners who, despite being allotted plots at the Dairy Complex at Kanheli village on the outskirts of Rohtak and receiving multiple notices, have failed to relocate their dairies there.

One of the dairies in the Gandhi Camp area was sealed, and six animals were relocated to a gaushala last evening. The action followed repeated appeals by the MC authorities to dairy owners for shifting their operations to the Kanheli Dairy Complex, as the fodder and other waste from these dairies were blocking sewer lines, causing waterlogging on roads.

“All animals were returned to the dairy owner on Tuesday when he, along with other dairy operators, visited the Commissioner’s office and assured him that they will soon shift their dairies from Gandhi Camp to the Kanheli Dairy Complex,” said Vipin Narwal, spokesperson for the MC, while speaking to ‘The Tribune’.

He added that the majority of dairies in the city are concentrated along Mal Godam Road, Kachha Beri Road, and the Gandhi Camp area.

“Among these, many dairy owners have been allotted plots in the new Kanheli Dairy Complex but they still seem to be unwilling to relocate. Initially, they cited the lack of basic facilities as the reason for not moving. However, all necessary amenities have now been provided, yet they are not interested in shifting despite repeated notices,” Narwal explained.

He further stated that the new Kanheli Dairy Complex had a total of 270 plots designated for dairy purposes, of which 251 had been allotted to operators at present running their dairies along Mal Godam Road, Kachha Beri Road, and the Gandhi Camp area. “So far, only 90 plot holders have relocated their operations to Kanheli, which is why strict action is being taken against those who have not yet shifted,” Narwal added.

Meanwhile, Dr Anand Kumar Sharma, Commissioner, MC, emphasised that the MC had already ensured all essential facilities at the dairy complex, including proper water supply, waste-water drainage system, adequate space for animals, internal roads, fodder market and lighting arrangements. Development work is also being carried out to further improve conditions at the site, he claimed.

The Commissioner warned that strict action would continue against those dairy owners who had failed to relocate to the designated complex despite having been allotted plots. “Those who have not shifted their dairies to the Kanheli Dairy Complex must do so immediately, otherwise their dairies operating in the city will be sealed, and they alone will be held responsible for the consequences,” Sharma added.
