Rohtak MC opens tender for cleanliness, upkeep of 113 public toilets

Amid growing criticism over poor sanitation conditions, the Rohtak Municipal Corporation (MC) has opened tenders for the cleaning and maintenance of 113 public toilets across the city. The new tender follows a revision in the earlier service model and includes a reduced contract cost.

Anand Sharma, Commissioner, Rohtak Municipal Corporation, said the e-tender process had been completed and the file had been forwarded to the Superintending Engineer concerned for approval as per norms. “The contract will be valid for one year and is expected to cost around Rs 1.19 crore,” he said.

The Commissioner stated that once the contract was awarded, it would help significantly improve hygiene standards and offer better convenience to the public. At present, the corporation was managing toilet cleaning with its internal workforce. With the new system, sanitation staff would be better utilised and service efficiency was expected to improve, he added.

“In addition, resources for door-to-door garbage collection have been enhanced, and cleanliness operations are being closely monitored. Officials have been given clear directives to ensure effective waste management,” Sharma added. He also appealed to the residents to avoid littering and ensure proper disposal of household, commercial and street vendor waste by using dustbins or biodegradable bags. The corporation would collect these as part of its regular service.

On property tax enforcement, the Commissioner said the MC was actively pursuing action against defaulters. Notices were already served to those with large outstanding dues, warning them of property sealing if payments was not made.

“On Tuesday, MC teams sealed four properties—including shops, warehouses, PG accommodations, and a washing station—at various locations such as Bohar village, near Sector 34 and Dev Colony. The action targets major defaulters and similar steps will continue,” Sharma stated.
