Rohtak MC set to replace 19K streetlights with LEDs
The Rohtak Municipal Corporation (RMC) has prepared a plan to replace sodium and CFL streetlights with energy-efficient LEDs.
Dharmendra Singh, Commissioner, RMC, said, “The project, with an estimated budget of Rs 46 crore, includes a plan to install new electric poles where necessary and lay separate electric cables for streetlights. Around 19,000 old streetlights will be replaced and 6,000 new lights will be installed.”
He said time-based switching would be a key feature of the project, which would automatically turn the streetlights on and off.
Additionally, a centralised control and monitoring system would be established, allowing for real-time supervision of the entire network. This system would alert the authorities immediately whenever the lights get dysfunctional, ensuring quicker maintenance, he added.
The MC Commissioner informed that the proposal had been sent to the state government for approval. He said once operational, the project would not only enhance lighting in the city but also lead to a significant reduction in electricity costs.
Sharing details of upcoming development works in the city under the Divya Nagar Yojana, he said two major projects, including construction and beautification of parks, and the construction of a stadium at Bohar village were set to be undertaken.
“The MC will spend approximately Rs 8 crore for the development of six parks under this scheme. These parks will be constructed at Garhi Bohar, Rainakpura, Ram Johri and Sunariya village. Additionally, beautification work will be carried out at Jasbir Colony and Medical Mor Park. The beautification work includes setting up of gazebos, footpaths, fountains and swings. These projects are being initiated through e-tendering,” he added.
Another official said under the Divya Nagar Yojana, the government and the RMC would jointly fund the projects, with 50 per cent of the costs covered by the government.
