Despite the municipal corporation’s (MC) efforts to impose penalties under the Prevention of Defacement of Public Properties Act, stickers and posters defacing public properties across Rohtak city remain largely untouched.

Local Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra has criticised the MC authorities for their inaction, asserting that penalties alone are insufficient and that it is also the administration’s responsibility to ensure the removal of these defacements.

“I raised the issue of defacement in the Vidhan Sabha session on November 19 and urged the state government to ensure the cleanliness of all cities by removing publicity materials from public properties. Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Minister Vipul Goyal assured the House that this would be done within 15 days. However, stickers are still pasted on many public properties in Rohtak,” Batra said.

Pointing to specific areas, Batra said, “Why have the entrances of Man Sarovar and other parks in Subhash Nagar and Model Town, as well as the elevated track and other government properties in Rohtak, not been cleaned? The authorities need to clarify this.”

He accused the MC of failing to follow the ULB minister’s instructions, labelling it a sign of lethargy. “Residents regularly complain to me about this issue. If the stickers are not removed soon, I will be forced to raise the matter again with the ULB minister,” Batra warned.

Meanwhile, Dharmendra Singh, Commissioner of Rohtak Municipal Corporation (RMC), defended the MC’s efforts. “Posters and stickers are being removed regularly,” he assured.

Singh added that a total fine of ₹13.54 lakh had been imposed on 43 violators over the past month. Additionally, the police have been approached to file FIRs against 31 violators under the Prevention of Defacement of Public Properties Act.
