Member of Parliament (MP) Deepender Hooda accompanied by local Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra on Sunday campaigned in support of Rohtak mayoral candidate Surajmal Kiloi and other candidates for the civic body election and appealed for support.

“Rohtak needs a strong mayor, not a weak one. In the last 10 years, the BJP government never focussed on development work in Rohtak. Whenever the budget for development came, it was misused and no investigation was done. There were scams, but no investigation was carried out because both governments at the Centre and state were of the BJP,” said Deepender while addressing poll meetings in ward No. 2 and 5 here.

The MP maintained that the then BJP MP himself had revealed that there was a scam of Rs 300 crore in Amrit Yojana in Rohtak. “The money received for cleaning the sewerage of the city was not utilised for the said purpose, and was never traced. But during the Hooda government, Rohtak emerged on the map of development as a metropolis. But in the last 10 years no new development work was carried out,” he added.

“The arrogance of the BJP crossed all limits and the people will vote to curb the arrogance and corruption of the BJP in the civic body election. Today, Rohtak has reached a miserable state. Roads and sewerage system are in a bad condition. Forget about building new roads, this government is not even able to get patch work done on them. The BJP has failed to provide even potable water to the people. People are yearning for even basic facilities,” Deepender added.

He said people had seen the BJP rule for the last 10 years and the problems of the people were not even heard during the BJP rule. “The triple-engine government could not work for the people. This is the reason why the BJP had to face defeat in the Lok Sabha election here. If the BJP had done good work, it would not have to face defeat,” the MP added.
