Rohtak PGI Dental Institute to integrate AI for patient care
Experts discuss cutting-edge tech, AI in dental diagnosis
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not only proving effective in the early detection of dental diseases but is also playing a transformative role in extending timely and precise treatment to patients. From assessing bone levels and gum depth to identifying the possibility of oral cancer and other serious conditions, AI is increasingly being adopted by dental institutions across the country for its unmatched diagnostic capabilities.
This was highlighted by leading dental experts from various states who gathered at the PGIMS, Rohtak, for a conference “Connection for Perfection”, organised by the Haryana State Dental Council, Panchkula, in collaboration with the Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGIDS), Rohtak, and the University of Health Sciences (UHS), on Sunday.
Experts discussed cutting-edge advancements in dentistry, with a special focus on AI’s role in early diagnosis and personalised treatment. Prof Neeraj Gugnani of DAV Centenary Dental College, Yamunanagar, presented an insightful session on “reimagining dentistry in the Era of AI,” emphasising its growing relevance in modern dental care.
In light of this, the PGIDS, Rohtak, is set to introduce AI-based diagnostic tools to improve treatment accuracy and patient outcomes. “With AI, we can detect cavities, gum diseases, and even early signs of oral cancer more efficiently, allowing for faster and personalised treatment,” said Dr Sanjay Tiwari, Principal of the PGIDS.He added that AI would also aid in designing 3D models for prosthetics, aligners, and implants, reducing waiting time and enhancing patient satisfaction.
“The integration of AI is a major step toward digitisation and smart healthcare in Haryana. Our students and faculty will be trained in these technologies to stay ahead in dental innovation. The PGIDS, Rohtak, secured the 12th position out of 223 dental colleges that applied for the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) ranking this year. In 2024, the PGIDS was ranked 23rd,” Dr Tiwari added.
Earlier, the conference was inaugurated by Dr HK Aggarwal, Vice-Chancellor, UHS, and Dr Manish Bansal, Director-General (Health) while PGIMS Director Dr SK Singhal, Medical Superintendent Dr Kundal Mittal, and Dean Dr Ashok Chauhan were also present at the event.
Aggarwal while speaking on the occasion emphasised the growing burden of dental diseases in India and the urgent need for early diagnosis and preventive care. He highlighted that oral health was critical but often neglected component of overall health, and stressed the importance of public awareness, regular dental check-ups, and timely treatment to prevent complications.
