Rohtak PGIMS doctors remove 8-kg ovarian tumor
A team of doctors headed by Dr Savita Singhal, Senior Professor at the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHS), Rohtak, has given a new lease of life to a woman by removing an 8-kg ovarian tumor from her body.
“A 50-year-old woman from Jind had been experiencing persistent heaviness in her abdomen for the past year. She was referred to Jind Government Hospital, which led to her referral at Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak. Her ultrasound test discovered that she had a large ovarian tumor. Further tests revealed the urgency for surgery, which was planned immediately to prevent any life-threatening complications,” said Dr Savita.
She maintained that after a successful three-hour surgery, the team removed an 8 kg tumor, measuring approximately 42 x 40 centimetres. Dr Monika Dalal, who was part of the surgical team, mentioned that she had never seen such a large tumor before.
Dr Singhal expressed gratitude to her team members, including Dr Monika, Dr Shikha Madan and Dr Prerna from her department, and Dr Renu Bala and Dr Mayuri from the anaesthesia department.
“The team members played a vital role in managing the woman’s fluctuating blood pressure and heart rate during the surgery under the guidance of Dr Suresh Singhal from the anaesthesia department. The woman is now recovering and is expected to be discharged within a week,” said Dr Savita.
