Rohtak set for road safety audit; focus on schoolbuses

A safety audit of all main roads of the district and city would be conducted to identify accident-prone spots and rectify the deficiencies.

Chairing a review meeting of the district-level committees of different departments concerned in this regard here on Tuesday, Rohtak Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Vaishali Singh said the idea behind the exercise was to ensure improved road safety in the district. The ADC said the district administration would form a team to conduct the audit.

“The departments concerned will rectify the deficiencies found in the safety audit as soon as possible,” she said. ADC Singh directed officials to immediately take the necessary steps regarding accident-prone points that had been identified so far.

Reviewing the Safe School Vehicle Policy, the ADC directed the District Education Officer (DEO) to instruct the managements of all private schools to follow the policy in letter and spirit.

“Schoolbuses will be inspected to check for violation of norms in a special campaign and action will be taken as per rules if any deficiencies are found,” she said, directing the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials to train school bus drivers.

The ADC asked Health officials to make efforts to reduce the time taken by ambulances to reach hotspots in case of medical emergencies. Reviewing the report of the Mining Department committee, the officer asked all SDMs, tehsildars and Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) to inform the Mining Officer as soon as possible if any case of illegal mining comes to their notice.

The ADC directed the Health Department officials to upload the data of persons addicted to drugs on the ‘Prayas’ application and update it every week. “All departments should establish better coordination under the drug-free Haryana campaign,” she said.

SDMs Ashish Kumar and Subhash Chander Joon, RTA Secretary Sunil Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police Logesh Kumar, District Development and Panchayat Officer Rajpal Chahal, DEO Manjeet Malik, District Town Planner Sumandeep and Road Safety Organisation representative Subhash Gupta were present during the meeting chaired by the ADC.
