Rohtak traffic police issued 55,983 challans, collected Rs 2.80 cr fine last year
In 2024, the Rohtak police issued a total of 55,983 traffic challans, thereby levying a penalty of Rs 2.80 crore.
Driving without helmet, improper vehicle parking and driving on the wrong side were among the primary traffic violations committed by residents last year.
Rohtak ASP and Nodal Officer (Traffic) YVR Shashi Shekhar stated that efforts were under way to strengthen the traffic system in the district to prevent accidents, for which challans were being issued regularly for violations.
"From January to December 2024, a total of 55,983 challans were issued to vehicle drivers for violating traffic rules. Fines, totalling Rs 2,80,04,900, have been collected and deposited in the government treasury as per the Motor Vehicles Act,” he added.
The ASP pointed out that the highest number of challans — 20,261 — were issued for riding without a helmet, followed by 8,542 for parking in non-parking zones, 6,248 for driving in the wrong direction, 3,374 for not wearing seat belts, 4,600 for driving in the wrong lane, 1,196 for driving without licence and 1,076 for not having registration certificate (RC) last year.
Additionally, 4,619 challans were issued for vehicles lacking number plates or high-security plates, 1,505 for triple riding, 572 for speeding, 499 for using black film, 385 for illegally installing red or blue lights, and 228 for drunk driving, he added.
“The district police are committed to taking strict action against traffic rule violators. Anyone found violating these rules will be issued a challan,” the ASP stressed.
