Rohtak varsity told to expedite probe into MBBS ‘exam scam’

Days after an “MBBS examination scam” was unearthed at Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences here, the district administration has asked the institute to expedite its investigation and submit a report at the earliest to facilitate swift action on the matter.

Also, the district police had assured the complainant, an MBBS student of a private college, of allowing him security, said sources. “The complainant has been provided the phone numbers of a few police personnel, whom he can contact during emergency or when he has to travel,” they said.

Rohtak Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata and Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarnia last evening met university officials, including Vice Chancellor Dr HK Aggarwal, at the Mini Secretariat here and discussed updates related to the investigation.

The sources said the police would also investigate independently the background of the main accused. Two university employees, Roshan Lal and Rohit, have already been suspended while the services of three outsourced staff members, Deepak, Indu and Ritu, have been terminated pending the inquiry.

The names of these employees were mentioned in the complaint, which included documentary evidence such as videos, photographs and details of online cash transactions. A three-member committee has been constituted to probe into the matter. Led by Dr MK Garg, the Director of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College, Karnal, the committee will begin its probe on Friday. All accused would be summoned to present their side, said the sources. The “scam” involved sneaking out answer sheets from the university after the exam. The students would allegedly rewrite their answers after erasing the original content. They used erasable ink-pens for writing and the content was later removed using a hair dryer, said sources.
