Kurukshetra, February 4
Claiming influence in 13 Assembly constituencies in the state, the Ror community is seeking ‘due’ representation through political parties in the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Haryana.
Community leaders said despite having a sizeable population, the community was not getting its due representation in the political parties, leading to a sense of resentment among its members.
During an event held in Kurukshetra on Saturday, community leaders submitted a memorandum to former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, seeking one Lok Sabha and three Assembly constituency tickets.
According to information, the community is seeking tickets for the Karnal Lok Sabha seat, and Pundri, Assandh and Gharaunda Assembly constituencies. Besides, the community has demanded that two ministers, two district chiefs and three chairpersons be picked up from the community if voted to power.
According to the community leaders, they were not given a single ticket by the Congress party in the 2019 elections, while the BJP had given them two, as a result of which a large section of the community supported the saffron party. The community has a sizeable presence in Ladwa, Thanesar, Pehowa, Pundri, Kaithal, Nilokheri, Indri, Assandh, Gharaunda, Karnal, Israna, Baroda and Safidon.
Sanjay Mehla, who had been associated with the Congress, said, “We have expressed our demands before former CM Hooda. The community has always supported the Congress party and thus, should be given its due representation. We have been assured by him that he would strongly raise our demand and ensure that the mistake that occurred in 2019 is not repeated. We are also trying to reach out to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss and put forth our demands.”
It’s not only the Congress the community leaders have approached — they have put up the same demands before the BJP, too.
Rampal Palwal, senior vice-president of Akhil Bhartiya Ror Mahasabha, said, “After no ticket was given to the community in 2019, the Congress suffered a loss in Kurukshetra, Kaithal and Karnal districts. The community has a good presence in Assandh, Gharaunda and Pundri. We also submitted a memorandum to BJP state chief Nayab Singh Saini during his Samman Samaroh in Kurukshetra recently.”
