A row has erupted over leasing a parking lot for impounded vehicles on the land near Pali village located in the Aravalli region in the district.
Charging that the allotment of land adjoining the police station located near the village was in violation of the forest norms, a representation by Pali villagers to the district officials has objected to the allotment of about two acres to a contractor for managing the vehicles impounded on the charges of overloading.
The land falls under the conserved area under Section 4-5 of the Punjab Land Preservation Act, 1900, it is claimed.
“Since the allotment is illegal due to its commercial nature, it will be challenged in the court if the move is not withdrawn soon,” says Jitender Bhadana, an activist of NGO ‘Save Aravalli’. Representations in this regard had been submitted to the authorities concerned, he added.
The leasing has been done by the District Red Cross Society for the parking of vehicles impounded by the RTA office here, it is revealed.
