The traffic police department here has imposed challans worth around Rs 1.30 crore for the violation of the traffic regulations in the district during the last month.

A spokesperson of the police department said a total of 9,388 owners of vehicles found to be violating the traffic rules had been challaned in the November this year.

He said while around 103 vehicles had been impounded for not following the traffic norms, the highest number of challans of 6,620 had been done for wrong-lane driving on main roads in the city and district. As wrong parking invited around 1,074 challans, 827 have been penalised for triple riding on two wheelers during this period.

As many as 10 motorcycles have been impounded over noise pollution in their two wheelers, which attract a fine of Rs 10,000, per vehicle, say police officials. Besides, 102 challans have been issued for the use of black films on vehicles, 236 for driving vehicles without number plates and 80 for driving two-wheelers without helmet. The total penalty amount of the challans issued in this duration is Rs 1,30,56,800.

SP Chander Mohan has appealed to the residents and drivers not to indulge in drunken driving and evade the use of cracker sound on motorcycles.
