After getting approval from the Northern Railway, the Haryana State Roads and Bridge Development Corporation (HSRDC) has invited a tender worth Rs 46.40 crore for the construction of a railway over bridge (ROB) to connect the NH-44 with the Hali lake in the Old Industrial Area here.

The tenders would be opened on Jan 13 and after getting the work order, the concessioner has to complete the work within 24 months.

This would be the fourth ROB in the city, which would play a major role in reducing the traffic load on the Assandh road flyover and at the red light on the NH-44. After the construction of the ROB, thousands of the people, living in the five wards, would be facilitated.

Thousands of residents living in Wards 20 to 25, including the Old Industrial Area, adjoining colonies, Sector 6 and outer colonies have to use the ROB (flyover) on the Assandh road due to a heavy traffic load daily. A large number of people daily visit the mini secretariat and the court complex. After getting the facility of the new ROB, they would directly reach the mini secretariat and the court complex.

To ease traffic congestion on the Assandh road flyover, Panipat City MLA Pramod Vij had planned a new ROB to connect Old Industrial area with the NH-44 near the mini secretariat and court complex during the previous government regime but it was stuck in files for some legal issues as well as for approval of the Railways.

Ravinder Kadyan, SDO, HSRDC, said the ROB would be 950 metre long and the estimated cost of the project was Rs 56 crore. The total width of the ROB would be 8.5 m, while it would have a 7.5 meter wide main carriageway, SDO Kadyan said.

It would play a big role in decongesting traffic on the Assandh road. The ROB would start 200 m inside from the main NH-44 near the PWD rest house and end near Hali Lake, he added.
