Panipat, February 16
Two miscreants robbed Rs 5.17 lakh from a courier company office at gunpoint after assaulting an accountant, near the Sector 7 turn on the Sonepat-Bahalgarh road in the wee hours today.
A police team of Sector 27 reached the spot and began a probe into the matter.
Ritik, who works at the courier office, alleged that he reached the office around 5 am, when two youths wearing helmets entered the office with pistols in their hands and attacked him. They asked him to open the drawer chest kept there. When he hesitated, they allegedly beat him up and threatened to shoot him. He said he had to open the chest with the password and the miscreants swiftly decamped with a cash of Rs 5.17 lakh, which was kept in a polythene bag.
The accountant informed the police about the incident on phone. The incident was captured in CCTV cameras installed there. Inspector Jai Bhagwan, SHO, Sector 27, CIA team, and other officials reached the spot.
Sources said the police suspected that some known persons were involved in the crime.
Inspector Jaibhagwan, SHO, Sector 27, said a probe was underway.
After getting the complaint from the victim, a case would be registered accordingly, the SHO said.
