Chandigarh-based RTI activist Rajinder K Singla on Wednesday alleged irregularities in the appointment of operation theatre technicians at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGI), Rohtak.

Singla said documents procured by him under the RTI Act showed that two such candidates were appointed as OT technicians in the institute without a degree in operation theatre technology. The appointments have been made on the basis of marksheets procured from a questionable university in the North East.

Though an institute committee had mentioned that both candidates should be considered provisionally subject to verification of their marksheet, yet the establishment committee went ahead with the selection process and recommended their names for appointment on August 31, 2012. Singla wondered how the two employees, who were also promoted in 2018, were still continuing in service when the DGHE Haryana had told the health university Registrar in 2013 to cancel their appointments. Singla has now brought the matter to the notice of Anil Vij, Minister for Health, Medical Education and Research, and KP Singh, Director General, State Vigilance Bureau, for a probe. — TNS
