Panipat, December 22
In a setback to the ruling party in Samalkha, the municipal committee chairperson and 10 councillors joined the Congress today in the presence of Congress Working Committee member and former MP Deepender Hooda.
Deepender addressed a party workers’ meeting organised by Samalkha MLA Dharam Singh Chhokkar as part of its ongoing thanksgiving programme in the state. MLAs Geeta Bhukkal and Balwan Balmiki were present during the programme.
The councillors who joined the Congress are chairperson Nidhi Mittal, her husband Sachin Mittal, Ashok Kucchal, Vikram, Raman, Kavita, Jaibhagwan, Bobby Jangra, Raju, Anuj Mittal and Bijender Garg.
Blaming the state government for the rising rate of unemployment and crime, Deepender said the government was trying to divert the attention of the people from actual problems.
He said the trust of the people in the BJP had started declining, which clearly showed that the ruling party had not fulfilled its promises.
Unemployment had reached its highest record in the past 45 years while inflation had disturbed the daily life of the people badly, he added.
The law and order situation was at its worst, he alleged. Heinous crime against women were on the rise while the state government was mum instead of taking stringent steps to check crime, he further said.
