The Fatehabad District Library issue has now reached the national stage with AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh writing to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, urging immediate action for its restoration.

Established in 2007, the library has been shifted multiple times and is currently housed in a cramped space at Bal Bhawan. Most of its thousands of books have been removed from shelves and packed into sacks, reducing it largely to a reading room. This has caused inconvenience to students, researchers and general readers.

Mohanlal Narang, convener of the Library Struggle Committee, welcomed the MP’s intervention.

“Our struggle is finally gaining national recognition. The administration must explain why thousands of books have been locked away and why the library has been reduced to a reading room,” he said.

Narang suggested that the vacant land of the old SDM residence on GT Road be used for a new library building, while the library could be temporarily shifted to Panchayat Bhawan. He proposed converting Bal Bhawan into a dedicated children’s library.

Earlier, AAP’s Haryana unit chief Sushil Gupta and local MLA Balwan Singh Daulatpuria had also raised the matter. The Higher Education Department too had written to Fatehabad’s DC on July 25, directing her to arrange a permanent, rent-free building. However, no action has been taken so far.
