The International Saraswati Mahotsav started with a Saras fair, amid the chants of shlokas at Saraswati Tirtha in Pehowa on Wednesday.Haryana State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Board chairman Amarpal Rana, along with Gau Seva Aayog Haryana chairman Shravan Garg and BJP leader Jai Bhagwan Sharma DD, inaugurated the event at Pehowa.

On this occasion, Amarpal Rana said that Pehowa was considered a place of great religious importance and lakhs of people came there every year from different parts of the country to perform post-death rituals for their family members, and also offer prayers to their ancestors. It is a matter of great pride that International Saraswati Mahotsav is being organised on such a large scale in Pehowa. The Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board is celebrating the Mahotsav on the lines of International Gita Mahotsav.

The chairman of Gau Seva Aayog, Haryana, Shravan Garg, said, "Such events give identity to the region. Besides, folk artistes get a platform where they can showcase their skills."

Meanwhile, BJP leader Jai Bhagwan Sharma said, “Along with various cultural programmes, students of the Kurukshetra University and various schools have also given their performances. Saras Mela has become the centre of attraction for people. We urge to the people of Pehowa to continue participating in the fair with great enthusiasm and enjoy the International Saraswati Mahotsav.”

SDM, Pehowa, Aman Kumar said that like every year, this year too, the International Saraswati Mahotsav was being organised on the occasion of Basant Panchami. This festival will conclude on February 4. About 100 artisans from different parts of the country have come to showcase their craft.”

Meanwhile, a three-day international conference on 'Saraswati River - The Cradle of Sanatan Civilization and Culture - Vision and Horizon for Viksit Bharat 2047' will be organised from January 30 to February 1.

It will be held under the joint aegis of Kurukshetra University's Saraswati Research Excellence Centre and Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board.

Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal and OSD to Chief Minister Bharat Bhushan Bharti will attend the inaugural session of this conference. The international conference will comprise four technical sessions and one plenary session in hybrid mode.
