Saraswati Sugar Mills starts crushing op

The Saraswati Sugar Mills (SSM, Yamunanagar), one of the largest sugar mills of the country, started its crushing operation on Tuesday.

The SSM has fixed a target to crush 1.25 crore quintals of sugarcane in this current crushing season.

With the start of the mill, a number of farmers will be able to sow their wheat crop after harvesting sugarcane on time. According to information, the crushing operation of the SSM was started by SK Sachdeva, Chief Executive of the mill.

On the occasion, senior vice-president (administration) of the mill DP Singh, senior vice president (technical) Satyaveer Singh, vice-president (cane) Lalit Kumar and eminent persons of the area were also present.

SK Sachdeva said special preparations were made to ensure the smooth operation of the mill.

He said the mill had fixed a target of 125 lakh (1.25 crore) quintals of sugarcane during this crushing season.

Lalit Kumar said for the convenience of the farmers, 45 sugarcane purchase centres had been established in the mill area.

He said to increase the production of sugarcane in the mill area, the farmers had been provided with advanced sugarcane varieties which had relatively higher yield.

DP Singh, company spokesperson, requested the farmers to cooperate by supplying all their sugarcane to the sugar mill.

“With the start of the mill, the harvesting of sugarcane has started. Now, a number of farmers, mainly small farmers, will be able to sow wheat crop after harvesting their sugarcane crop,” said farmer Nilesh Kumar of Devdhar village. The Haryana government has fixed the price of sugarcane at Rs 415 per quintal for early variety this year.
