Chandigarh, April 18

The Sports Department today launched a scholarship scheme for financially weak students sportspersons of the state. Those of the international-level will get Rs 84,000 for gold, Rs 72,000 for silver and Rs 60,000 for bronze per year, while those of the national-level achievers will get Rs 60,000, Rs 48,000 and Rs 36,000 for gold, silver and bronze, respectively.

For winning gold, silver and bronze at the state-level, one will get Rs 42,000, Rs 36,000 and Rs 30,000, respectively. The woman students will get an additional amount of Rs 1,000 per month. For only SC sportspersons, Rs 18,000 will be given for participation at the state-level. The scholarship will be given on the basis of achievements in the preceding year, for a period of one year i.e. during the financial year subsequent to the year of achievement. Only student sportspersons who have domiciles of Haryana representing the state will be eligible. The students whose parents’/ guardians’ income from all sources, during the year of sports achievement, does not exceed Rs 2.50 lakh in case of SC Student and Rs 1.80 lakh for other categories will be eligible. The income certificate is to be attached with the application form. It is mandatory for the applicant to mention his or her Parivar Pehchan Patra ID in the application. The instructions have been issued to all district sports and youth welfare officers. —
