Schoolbus falls into canal in Kaithal, eight injured
Seven students and the driver of a schoolbus sustained injuries after the bus plunged into the dried-up Hansi-Butana canal near Noch village in the district.
The driver lost control of the vehicle due to a reported steering malfunction. DC Preeti has directed officials to investigate the matter.
“Seven children and the driver of the bus of a private school sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. Police and administrative teams visited the accident site and the hospital to check on the injured persons’ wellbeing. The cause of the accident will be investigated, and the bus will be examined,” said the DC in a press note.
The incident took place at around 8 am when a bus of Guru Nanak Academy, Pehowa, a private school, was traveling along the embankment of the canal after picking up students. A sudden steering malfunction caused the driver to lose control, leading the bus to veer off balance and plunge into the canal, said the police.
Panic gripped the area as students screamed for help.
Passers-by immediately rushed to the spot to rescue them. They pulled the injured persons out of the bus and rushed them to the hospital.
Police officials from the Keorak police post and the Dial 112 emergency team promptly arrived at the scene. The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
ASI Rajinder Kumar, in charge of the Keorak police post, said all the injured persons were out of danger and receiving treatment.
