Sec 81 residents embark on ‘no road-no vote’ campaign

Residents of various housing societies of Sector 81 launched a ‘no road-no vote’ protest over the poor condition of roads in their area today. The residents of more than seven societies, including Bestech Parkview Ananda, DLF Ultima and Sare Home, warned of boycotting the upcoming Assembly elections if their demands were not met.

The residents gathered on the road outside their societies and staged a protest against the authorities. They said the government spent Rs 67 crore on the beautification of Rampura-Pataudi Road, but, now, this road was in a bad condition.

“The whole stretch of road in front of our society is filled with potholes. Even after meeting many officials and MLAs, no solution was found. We were forced to take to the street today and our campaign ‘no road-no vote’ will continue if no action is taken to improve the condition of the road,” said Majeet Singh, president of Bestech Ananda RWA.

Protesters said around 10,000 people commute through this road every day, which is considered the backbone of new Gurugram. Many hospitals are also located on this road and patients, especially pregnant women and elderly, are inconvenienced due to the potholed road.

“The road in front of Bestech Ananda and DLF Ultima has been completely damaged and the safety of people is at the mercy of god. Despite meeting various officials, no action was taken to resolve our problems. Both the builder and the government are running away from their responsibilities,” said a protester.

“Even after seven years, some legal cases related to this road were not resolved and despite that Rs 67 crore were spent on its beautification. The administration should understand the plight of people and solve this problem at the earliest. If our demands are not met, we will take legal action,” said Praveen Malik, president of Sare Homes RWA.
