Highlighting the problems of leakage in sewer lines and shortage of water supply, residents of Sector 16 and 17 alleged that they were living in unhygienic conditions for months.

The residents said that despite multiple complaints and meetings with officials of the Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), including Executive Engineer and the Sub Divisional Engineer, no action was taken to redress their grievances reportedly on the pretext of prolonged tendering processes.

A delegation of the Residents' Welfare Association (RWA) of Sector 16 and 17, led by president Inder Singh Malik, met HSVP Estate Officer Aanchal Bhaskar on Tuesday to discuss the persistent sewer leakage and water supply issues affecting the residents for the past four months.

"The residents of the sector have been suffering for months, but instead of resolving the issue, officials keep delaying it on some pretext or the other. We demand immediate action to clear the sewers and ensure hygiene in the area," said Malik. To provide immediate relief, the delegation requested deployment of heavy duty machines to clear the blocked sewer lines and prevent further overflow.

The RWA members said apart from the sewer issue, they also raised concerns about the irregular and low-pressure water supply in the sector. They urged the Estate Officer to increase the water supply duration and ensure full-pressure distribution so that the residents do not suffer from water shortage.

"We are facing a double whammy. On one hand, overflowing sewage is making living conditions unbearable, and on the other, we are not getting sufficient drinking water. The authorities must act now to resolve these basic necessities," said Harish Chandra Middha, an RWA member.

However, the HSVP Estate Officer assured the delegation that both issues would be addressed at the earliest. She promised that she would take immediate steps for deploying machinery for sewer clearance and coordinate with the departments concerned to improve the water supply situation.

The delegation comprises Dharampal Kaliraman, Harish Chandra Middha, Kulbir Duhan, Wazir Budhana, Atar Singh, Tilak Mehta, Manoj Saini, Charan Singh, and others.
